AD Raphael

My practice is one which is conceptually driven, dealing mainly with issues surrounding the black cultural experience and black identity and how ideas on such matters are disseminated and received in contemporary society. My art takes various different forms including, screen prints, spoken word, digital media and clothing. In my practice I work heavily with text, exploring why certain words and lexical fields are used when discussing such matters. I also explore how language has been used both historically and in contemporary society in relation to the black experience and culturally the impact this has not just on me as a black British artist, but on my generation as a whole.
